Copyright today, copyleft tomorrow?
Lean3 is all about sharing. Wikipedia gives us a shining example. On Wikipedia, knowledge is created collaboratively, and shared freely. The Wikimedia Foundation which administers Wikipedia is a non-profit organisation. It is committed to the free sharing of knowledge.
A commitment to free sharing of Good Practice

We start with copyright…
Our commitment for Lean3 is to free sharing, but this will take time to set up. Today, Lean3 is sponsored by Triotime, a small private, for-profit company. Today, all the material on Lean3 is copyright, owned by Triotime. This is a short-term compromise so that Lean3 can get started and gather momentum. Today’s internet is not a friendly place: it is full of pirates, trolls and hackers. Copyright protection is a short-term defence against pirates.
… and will transition to free sharing
In the mid-term, a non-profit Lean Institute will administer Lean3, just as the Wikimedia Foundation administers Wikipedia. This will probably be called The Lean3 Institute. This body will decide which licence to use.
